HI,
1>generally in real time scenarios do we transport IR and ID or we transport SLD also,
2>do we transport from dev to quality only or we transport from quality to production also.
A) We transport SLD,IR nd ID objects of XI from DEV to QA and QA to prod.
There are three methods of transport.
1) File transnsport which is manual method
2) CMS transport method which is automated method.
3) CTS+ method.
File transport method is simple
GO to IR-> tools-> export-> select File/CMS-> select SWCV or individual object or namespace-> finish it will generate the .tpz file
follow the import process in QA.

Once you have created SLD in Dev below transport mechanism is used for transporting the obj from DEV to QA and PROD:
Transport mechanism
1. Create Technical System and Business Systems for the QA system.
2. Create Transport Groups in the Business System.
3. Create Transport Targets in the Source Business SYstem.
Check the link for:

Your SWCV can be exported and imported using TPZ files into the IR.
The ID also use TPZ files and as the objects are imported, the business system details will be filled up .

Somu,
1 Generally in real time scenarios do we transport IR and ID or we transport SLD also,
Integration Repository objects are referred to as design objects and Integration Directory objects are referred to as configuration objects. Together, they are referred to as XI objects. The transport of XI objects consists of an export from the source repository or directory and an import to the target repository or directory, respectively. You can transport XI objects for the following reasons:
● To copy design objects from one Integration Repository to another Integration Repository. The software component version must be the same in the source and target repository in this case. In this way, you provide the design objects of the Integration Repository using export files.
● To copy configuration objects from one Integration Directory to another Integration Directory. In this way, you can copy a test configuration to a productive landscape.
Go through this..
