How do I patch livecache?

Per a message I have open with SAP, I am supposed to patch livecache according to note: 753528

I downloaded: Support Packages and Patches -> SAP Application Components -> SAP SCM -> SAP SCM2007 -> Entry by Component -> SAP LiveCache -> SAP LC/LCAPPS 5.1 -> Linux on Power 64 -> LC770322A6010_4-20002023.SAR.

When I uncompress this and view the readme, it looks to be a new

installation, not a patch. Is this correct? The instructions say:

Installing MaxDB on Linux

-

1. Open a root shell.

2. Change to the directory which contains the MaxDB package you have

downloaded.

3. Unpack the MaxDB package.

4. To start the Installation Manager, enter ./SDBSETUP

5. Choose "Start MaxDB installation". Follow the instructions of the

Installation Manager.

6. After finishing the installation, exit the root shell.

7. Update the PATH environmental variable for the operating system user

who is going to operate MaxDB, for example using export

PATH=/opt/sdb/programs/bin:$PATH

If necessary, add it to the login profile of the operating system user as

well (for example, .bash_profile in the user's home directory).

For further information refer to the MaxDB documentation on

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/maxdb/en/default.htm.

It doesn't mention what to do if we already have livecache installed.

Do we have to uninstall the old version first?

Will this cause any data loss?

Thank you.

HI TJ,

actually all MaxDB/liveCache patches always contain the whole installation package.

Thus the procedure of installing and patching an instance are pretty similar.

The SDBSETUP programm distinguished between these cases, so there is nothing in addition to the note that you've to do here.

You don't have to uninstall the liveCache software before and the patch installation won't cause data loss.

Anyhow: it looks like you're doing this for the first time, so be sure to try out this yourself on your testsystem!

You may also want to check note #875662 for further details.

Thank you for the information. I did the installations with SDBSETUP, but I have not patched livecache before. I appreciate your help.

Dear Mr. Wilkinson,

-> What is the OSS number, where you was recommended to patch livecache according to note: 753528?

-> If you have the SCM 5.1 system installed & was recommended to update the LCA/liveCache

to the versions :: 60.10 PL 004 / 7.7.03.22 ==>

Please follow the SAP Note 1127208.

And import SAP liveCache 5.1 LCA build 10 patch level 004 and the relevant liveCache kernel 7.7.03 build 022,

to install the file, proceed as described in SAP Note 998966.

Please review the SAP information at service.sap.com/liveCache < SAP liveCache Technology >

->Release-Dependent -> SAP LC/LCAPPS 5.1

-> What is the current versions of the LCA/liveCache on your system?

Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
