Hi Gurus,

Till now I use to work in windows platform.

Recently I shifted to IBM AIX platform.

Now I am working with IBM AIX 6.1 and P6 570.

I don’t know much about AIX flavor if you can help me out in solving my problems

1) To work on AIX platform what to learn UNIX or directly we can go for AIX administration. But know one is teaching AIX administration in-depth.

2) If I learn UNIX administration that will be helpful to me to work in IBM AIX 6.1 platform

If any valuable suggestions it will be helpful to me

Regards,

Sateesh J

Hi pandu,

For very good(and free) resources on AIX visit www.redbooks.ibm.com and do a search for "AIX System Administration" ..since you will be working with LPARS then also do a search for that(also HMC ;).

In fact the one you would probably most likely want to read is this: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg246191.html?Open ...which will tell you almost everything you need to know on AIX Administration.

The best AIX book I've every read on AIX is The AIX Survival Guide by A. Siegert

It is out-of-print but still available from places like Amazon, and was written with version 4.3, but all that aside, a great book on AIX.

"Unix" is generic term for some operating systems that comply to a specific standard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix). All of them share a specific subset of commands but in detail they will differ (arguments of commands etc.). If you know one of them, you're able to get in touch quickly with another one.

You can check

http://bhami.com/rosetta.html

for a comparision of the commands used in the derivatives, most likely you will use smit (or smitty on the console).

Another good approach to learn is to install a Linux system locally and experiment with that.
