-24994 runtime environment error while starting MAXDB J2E instance

Former Member

Hello,

I have a SAPDB installation on my Windows XP machine that came along with SAP WAS 640 SP12.

I was trying to explore the dbmcli commands basically to shrink the log files.

Its strange but when I went to SAPMMC and checked the database, it went offline. Now when I want to make it online, I get the following error.

-24994 runtime environment error.

I check the XSERVER service and its switched off. I tried to START the service but I got the following error.

Windows could not start the XSERVER on local Computer.....

Please help.

With Best Regards,

Shubham

Hi,

can you take a look into the XSERVER logfile (<drive>:\sapdb\data\wrk\xserver.prt or similar) and post the matching error output into this thread?

Additionally, please also check the (<drive>:\sapdb\data\wrk\<SID>\)knldiag.err file and copy any paste the relevant information matching your -24994 error into this thread.

Kind regards,

Roland

Hi,

according to the knldiag.err logfile, the DB has problems opening the second Log-Volume 'C:\sapdb\J2E\saplog\DISKL002'. The Windows returncode received is '2', which states: 'The system cannot find the file specified.'

Can you take a look at this file to see if it still exists and enough permissions are set so the DB can open this Log volume?

Roland

Hi Roland,

I checked the file exits in the directory. Checked the Security of the file DISKL002 with DISKL001.

There is only one difference.

In DISKL001 there is a User "CREATOR OWNER" who has all the previlage whereas in DISKL002, there is no such user. I tried to search user with above name but was not able to locate.

Can you please help me assign the settings of DISKL001 to DISKL002.

Is there any way we can prevent system from seraching for DISKL002?

Thanks & Regards,

Shubham

Hi,

I noticed you also opened an OSS message for this case and that it has already been solved.

Although the SDN is a way to solve problems, official SAP customers should preferably use the 'official' channels for problem-reporting (OSS).

Kind regards,

Roland

Hi Roland,

I always use OSS as the last option.

I first check if I am doing something wrong.

Then I check if anyone has solved the problem I am facing. SDN is the best place to fine that incase of Netweaver Components.

This helps me to understand the concepts better and investigate about the internals of a product that we usually don't do otherwise.

But when I get stuck I open the OSS message, like I did in this case.

Shubham

Hi Shubham,

I totally agree with your path, I only wanted to emphasize that error/problems for official SAP customers should be posted on the official channel (for bugfixes etc.).

Kind regards,

Roland
