Making changes to field in screen painter

I am trying to change a field in the screen painter for an SAP original program. I have obtained an access key to make the modification and it accepts the key. I click on the 'edit mode' icon and it tell me that I am in edit mode, however, when I try to click on the field that I want to change (which is now white), it will not allow me to change it.

I am trying to modify program SAPMV60A and change screen 6105.

The first field on the screen points to a data element named VBRK-FKDAT and I need it to point to VBRP-FBUDA. How can I make this change?

Your modification assistant is on. I remember when I made the chage accross the application part of the tool bar there should be insert, modify and delete. You have to click on these in order to make your change.
