hi
in order to support more than 4000 users
we are going to extend our ep6 installations
from single server
to about 6 new windows servers with 4 cpu
and 16G each which will be balanced
using sap web dispatcher .
in order to fulfill our sizing recommendations
we need to have about 50G of available
for this installation
due to limitation of 1G per server in windows machines this means that we will need to
create about 10 servers in each node .
is there any way we can avoid large numbers
of servers in each host ?
can we create 10 servers for each java application server ?
Dear Ron,
If you are on a 64 bit machine with Max heap as 2 GB then no.of nodes which SAP suggests is given by the value Available Physical Memory / 2.5.
You must also consider other process running and their memory requirements before finalizing on this value as heavy paging at OS level can significantly effect your server response time.
Refer note 723909.
Thanks & Regards,
Vijith

Hi Ron,
A system based on AS-JAVA can be scaled by adding more instances and/or by adding server nodes to existing instances. If you are adding more hosts, you'll need to install at least one instance per host, but from there you can scale up by adding server nodes to the existing instances.
A dispatcher with multiple server nodes becomes less efficient at some point, so as a general recommendation don't add more than 7 to 8 server nodes per dispatcher. You can always add another instance if you need more server nodes on a single host.
You don't specify if the new Windows servers are 32 or 64-bit; if you still have the choice, go for 64-bit and you won't have the memory limitations of a 32-bit platform; for 64-bit platforms SAP recommends 2 Gb java heap size. Because of this you can support a higher number of users per server node.
You don't indicate if the 4,000 users are named or concurrent users - will they be on the system at the same time? If you estimate 4,000 named users then the number of concurrent users will surely be lower; when sizing it is best to consider peak concurrent load (although it can be difficult to determine that).
Hope this helps...
Cheers,
Walter

Hi Ron
You can add multiple Java server nodes , depending on the CPU and RAM size.
If you have 16G of ram then you can have nearly 6 server nodes on a single server.
