Usage in Item category determination

Hi friends,

In delivery item category determination there will be in field called "Usage" . Delivery type will be coming from delivery document type, Item category group will be coming from material master. In the same way where from this Usage data will be coming. How come the system knows which is FREE, CHSP, Etc??

Can anyone explain me in detail please.

Dear Ratna Kumar

Go to VD53, give the customer code and their sales area and execute so that system will display a list of items that particular customer is buying and along side is the customer part number of the respective item. Choose any one and click on blue lens on top left so that you can see under the tab "Control data", the Item Usage.

Spro --> Sales and Distribution --> Sales --> Sales Documents --> Sales Document Item --> Define Item Category Usage

Item usage controls how the item category should behave during a document processing. Item usage controls the usage of the item. Item usage tells wheather it is a text item , free item , product selection item etc

We can maintain Item usage feild at CMIR also

Item usage is a ABAP program, which in certain cases are set internally in the program. You assign these ABAP programs in item category determination.

The usage type TEXT is used by system if the user enters an item in a sales document by entering data in the description field without specifying material number.

The usage type FREE is used by system for controlling free goods items.

This indicator can be used for determination of item categories, where

you can use it to control which other item categories are to be found in

a certain environment (text items and packing items, for example).

It can also control which items are to be billed in a service quotation

or the corresponding sales order and which are only there for

statistical reasons.

Generally this item usage is there in CMIR too which has the heighest priority. ( even through we wont maintain this while creating CMIR)

item usage tells- how we process the material in transaction.

it mainly used in cross selling scenario.
