Hi Yoganand,

First part can be answered. APO started with version 2.0 and current version is called SCM 2007 thru 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1 (with Transportation Management Add on), total 8 versions

As regards difference between versions - pls. refer http://help.sap.com/ SAP Businesss Suite > Supply Chain Management > Knowledge centre for supply Chain Management and see the menu for each version to find out the differences at a broad level. You would note that from version 4.0 SAP has included components like ICH and EM. From verison 4.1 it also included F&R specifically for retail, apparel and footwear kind of industries, Version 3.0 did not have TPVS etc etc. In case you are new to SAP SCM, pls. refer to SCM wiki pages maintained by Somnath in this forum,

You need to refer the individual release notes for each version to figure out the detailed feature x funciton differences in each version and thats a mega research in itself. The day you decipher and internalize it completely feature by feature, you would be amongst the top 1% of the consultants.

Note that over this period, the solutioning and positioning of SAP SCM too has changed, necessiating changes in architecture to include various mix and match SCENARIOS with appliation components from R3 and APO to meet the four complementary functions of Planning, Coordinaiton, Collaboration and Execution of which planning can addressed largely by APO and/or S&OP>DRP>MPS>MRP in ECC and Execution largely in ECC and Collaboration and Coordination using both. with a lot of grey area wrt what exactly should should qualify for the same. These SCENARIOS are called BUILDING BLOCKS and they are also available on help.sap.com.

Hope this serves your curiosity to begin with. To explore more i recommend you to visit sap.com and surf the solution maps extensively to appreciate things.

Regards,

AS
