Integration of MS Excel with NW XI

Hi XI Guru's

I am in sap Basis team,Firts time I have Successfully Installed SAP NetWeaver 2004s.Now i wanted to integrate NW with MS Excel with the help of XI,but I do't know from where to start the the configuration(means the first step to last step).

yesterday i have gone through the various links provided in SDN forum,here are the links-

One More Query,what are the basis role in XI?

What configuration are required in newly installed NW?etc

I have created users and assigned role to them accordingly.

Now what is the next step to integrate the MS Excel with XI.

One of the option:

You can write a adapter module using NWDS and have to deploy that module to the XI server ...ie J2EE engine.

You have to mention the developed module in the Adapter configuration.
