SAP Retail supports the following kinds of free merchandise:

1. Buy One Get One Free (B1G1F).

2. Gift with purchase (GWP)

3. X for the price of Y.

Discounted goods quantity - for example, 3 for the price of 2.

The free article is the same as the purchased article. In this case, three articles are scanned at full price, then essentially the customer receives an instant rebate at POS (point of sale) for the price of the third article. This comes under the merchandise type X for the price of Y.

Examples:

Buy One Get One Free

The free article is the same as the purchased article. The first article scanned has the full price; the second one scanned has 0 price. This also holds for multiples, such as buy 4 boxes of candy, get 1 free.

GWP (Gift with purchase)

The free article is different from the purchased article. For example, buy a perfume and get a free purse-size eau de toilette, or buy a 20-piece set of china and get a free serving bowl.

X for the price of Y

11 CDs for the price of 10

The free article is the same as the purchased article. In this case, 11 articles are scanned at full price, then essentially the customer receives an instant rebate at Point of sale for the price of the 11th article.

Hope this answers your question.
