Firstly it is important that you mention about CONTEXT - what nodes/attributes are you going to use.
What are the types of these. What data you need to keep in the component controller...
A systematic approach I think would be begin writin the specs with:
1. Component Name/Purpose/Used Components
2. Component Controller/custom controllers if any. Under this heading, most important is the context and then the methods.
3. Views: Layout/Context/Methods/Event Handlers/Plugs - Inbound and Outbound
4. Windows:
5. Interface controller - Context, Methods.
