Title: Any tips or pitfalls to avoid when connecting with Microsoft's Business Data Catalog (BDC) to SAP Netweaver?

Hi,

I was wondering if there would be any tips or pitfalls you can share about connecting with the Windows BDC (Business Data Catalog as found in for example SharePoint 2007) to the SAP NetWeaver web service interface?

In this forum there is not much mentioned on the Business Data Catalog (BDC) topic so far...

Regards,

Bob

Hi Bob,

a lot of customers are already using the BDC with SAP, you can find more information of how to connect from the BDC to SAP using Web Services at http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/c/1/bc1939d9-638f-4053-b602-4258f18bb683/CB_045_Interoperab..., there are a couple of limitations you have to keep in mind when using the BDC:

- The backend system must be Web Service enabled

- Only one Web Service Call at a time when using the BDC, you have to compose the Web Service in a way taht you get all the data back you need. If this is not offered by the backend Web Service (e.g. by the BAPI exposed as Web Service) you have a couple of choices like creating a zBAPI, using BizTalk or PI for aggregating the information, ...

Thanks,

Juergen

Thank you for this information. It is good to hear about the limitations of the Business Data Catalog.
