Invoice notification and Advance shipment notification

Hi all,

1.can some one plz explain me what is Invoice notification and when it should be triggered and the basic diffrence between std invoice and invoice notification what are the customising settings i need to look to configure Invoice notification?

2.What is Advance shipment notification? when it should be triggered? ( i guess it should trigger based on client request) is advance shipment notification similar to delivery output?

experteez plz throw some light on the above queries.
