4.6C on RHEL5

Hello all,

I am new to Unix flavours..I am Planning to Install 4.6c+Oracle8.1.7 on RHEL5..Please suugest this combination will work or not..I just Installed RHEL5.0 on VMware and i about to start SAP installtion..Pleae let me know if any one has made custom installation procedure for RHEL5...

Hi Kaushal,

I was going through that SAP Note.But my worry is whter RHEL5 will support oracle817 or not.Kindly tell me any useful links aprt from /instguides

check Note 419920 - INST: 4.6D SR1 SAP Basis Inst. on UNIX - Oracle

i am not sure about 8.1.7 on RHEl5 might be it is not supported.

i found oracle 10g only with EXT_kernel 4.6D

Oracle 8.1.7 is out of support and I seriously doubt that you will be able to run it under such a new OS as RHEL 5.

Early installers of Oracle needed the "old" thread mechanism (means, LD_ASSUME_KERNEL), otherwise they won´t run. That compatibility is take out of this OS version so you won´t even be able to start the Oracle installer.

It´s possible to install 4.6c with Oracle 9.2 or 10g so I highly suggest going that way.
