Importance of Shipping point in SAP is it acts as a door or gate for entry or exit of material. Untill & unless Shipping point is identified, System will not understand that what is the point from where material has to leave. Shipping Point can be assigned only to Delivering Plant. Plant in customizing becomes Delivering Plant, when Plant is assigned to combination of Sales Organization & Distribution Channel, without which it is not available for assigning plant to shipping point at Enterprise Structure level.

Shipping point may differ based on Shipping Condition, Loading Group, Delivering Plant & it is also possible that it may differ based on storage location.

Hi! Lucky,

Any of the sales and distribution activity is carried out at some or the other organizational level.

Like, any accounting related entry is responsibility of company code. Hence you create it by referencing to a company code (you mention a company code for these docs)

Any sales related entry is responsility of a sales organization, hence any sales related documents have a reference to sales organization.

You may like to go back to definitions of this organization levels. Similarly, any shipping related activity is the responsibility of shipping point.

Shipping point is the highest organizational structure for all shipping related activities, thus have a own set of customizations and configuration

Deliveries assigned to different shipping points can be processed differently. Further, as you are aware, shipping point is determined for each sales order item seperately. This may result in different shipping points being determined in the same sales order. So, in one sales order you may have products which are not processed in the same way.

Thus while creating a delivery you first decide a shipping point and then decide one or more orders to be processed via the shipping point.

I will repeat the statement. Shipping point is the highest organizational structure for all shipping related activities.

Hi Lucky,

Shipping points are independent organizational entities within which processing and monitoring of the deliveries as well as goods issue is carried out. A delivery is processed by one shipping point only.

In a sales order if for the line items if multiple shipping points are there then that many deliveries are created. So a delivery split occurs whenver there is a different shipping point.

A shipping point can be determined for each order item. How the shipping point is determined depends on three factors:

The shipping conditions from the customer master record (Shipping screen)

For example, it might have been agreed with the customer that the goods are to be delivered as soon as possible.

The loading group from the material master record (Sales/Plant Data screen)

You could, for example, specify a loading group that defines that the goods must always be loaded with a crane or a forklift.

The delivering plant

This plant is determined per order item either from the customer master record or from the material master record. However, you can also enter it manually for each order item.

hope it helps. and pl reward useful contributions before marking them as answered. It encourages.

Thanks & Regards
