i have downloaded Platinuim GUI for SAP linux.. which is jar file.. but when i used the command for extracting it extracts back to the same file.. Gui installation cannot continue. Is there any rpm file for SAPGUI?

Dear Tony,

do not use the shipped Java from the Fedora installation. Please download and install the 1.5 Sun JRE from java.sun.com. Please make sure to update /etc/java-alternatives to the new one. The command "/sun/jre/java -jar PlatinGUI.jar" will work then.

Thanks,

Hannes

Mr Hannes,

i have downloaded the required Java for the GUI installation. But i have actually installed SAP Netweaver 2004s SR1 using the Java package provided by fedora... so is it possible to install an older version. Would it affect the ECc installation files? Shoul di first uninstall the package and then put the java 1.4 version?

Dear Tony,

you can install additional java packages as long as you install them into separate directories. I have several installed on my system too:

# ls -a1 /usr/java
jdk1.4.2_14
jdk1.5.0_09
jdk1.5.0_14

When using an application which needs a specific java version, I create a wrapper script to include this particular version of java, including the invoke of the command with the full path, e.g. /usr/java/1.4.2_14/bin/java. When using a wrapper script having multiple versions installed, there is no need to change the java-alternative settings.

The command to start the installation looks like:

/usr/lib/jdk1.5.0_14/bin/java -jar PlatinGUI.jar

A wrapper to start my JavaGUI looks like:

#!/bin/sh
# start JavaGUI
export SNC_LIB=/usr/lib/libsecude.so
export CREDDIR=/dev/shm/ssoclient-`id -u`
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jdk1.5.0_14
export PLATIN_JAVA_VER=1.5.0_14
export PLATIN_JAVA=$JAVA_HOME/bin/java
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/SAPGUI7.10rev1.3/bin
/opt/SAPGUI7.10rev1.3/bin/guilogon

Thanks,

Hannes

Mr Hannes..

Can i know what a wrapper script is?

Dear Tony,

a wrapper script is a small text file which execute several commands. For example, i would have installed an application which needs special environment variables set (which are only useful for this particular application). One way to start the application is to open a terminal, set the variables via 'export' or 'set env', and start the application afterwards. This is not ery convenient, so you can use a wrapper script. This is as mentioned above, a simple text file which does the same for you.

The content of such a wrapper script is already mentioned in my last post (the one with the !#/bin... line). So simply create a text file somewhere (e.g. your home directory), name it sapgui.sh and place the content in there (make sure to adept the paths accordingly). Change the attributes to +x (chmod +x sapgui.sh) and start the script. For the particular application the environment variables are then set without setting them for the whole system.

Thanks,

Hannes

Tony,

are you sure, that your system is running on system number 00 (see your /S/3200 setting). Some Testdrives are using system number 01 (/S/3201). Can you give it a try?

Thanks,

Hannes

Hi,

use following

conn=/H/x.x.x.x/S/32yy

where x.x.x.x is ip address for your SAP System.

yy = instance number of your SAP System
