Hi Friends,

Mostly we are using third party system supported by SAP for this requirement. Here we have one ZPack’*

(Short description)

1. General

The complete packing process with all its complexity can be processed using this GPC Add-In-Module for SAP R/3-Systems. This means, beginning with the entering of the packing contents, the description of the characteristics of the packing material like weight and dimensions and ending with the determination of tracking numbers and the supply of the input interface structures of the parcel carriers, this system contains all required functions for the packing process. Beyond that the module offers inquiry and tracing functions including besides other means the tracking internet pages of the parcel carriers.

2. Master data maintenance/Control

Packing material types and parcel carrier data have to be defined within the SAP master data environment (material master, vendor master). The entire control information is defined using GPC customizing and master data tables. This includes especially the rules for the determination of tracking numbers per parcel carrier, type and description of the parcel carrier specific interface as well as all further carrier and process specific information.

3. Processing

see GPC EZPack Show - German (381 KB)

GPC EZPack Show - English (370 KB)

3.1 Packing

Entering the shipment number and defining the packing material starts the the selection of all packing relevant and not yet packed delivery items of the shipment. The items are displayed per ship-to on a list screen. The items are – by default – marked as completely packed, depending on customizing settings which enables the user to simply confirm the packing process. If that is not the case all packed items along with their packed quantities have to be identified individually. The weight of the parcel can be determined by using a weight scale connected to the system or by entering it manually. The module then determines in the background the identifier for the Handling Unit and the tracking number according to the parcel carrier specific rules. The packing process is terminated by executing the function ‘save’.

This function includes the following activities:

- supply of the parcel carrier interface

- creation of the Handling Unit and allocation to the shipment document

- creation of the Handling Unit item (packed quantity)

- update of the document flow of delivery and shipment

depending on the application, other functions like:

- Posting PGI

- Modification of one or more shipment status

3.2 Unpacking

Due to several reasons it might be necessary to reset already finished packing processes (damage of the parcel, errors during the packing process, …). EZPACK therefore provides a separate transaction which contains – beyond the unpacking - the following functions:

- Check whether there are other Handling Units for a delivery

- Option, whether one Handling Unit should be unpacked or all Handling Units which are

related to the delivery

- Creation of a correction record for the parcel carrier system which enables the carrier system

to recognize the reset action and avoides dubble invoicing

3.3 Tracking and Tracing

EZPACK supports system immanent inquiry functions as well as accesses to external inquiry systems. For example entering the customer purchase number will return all related tracking numbers and all Handling Units in the system. Calling the tracing web pages of the parcel carrier by marking the Handling Unit or the shipment will display all the information related to the tracking number.

4. Others

4.1 Userexits

Userexits have been made available at certain points in the programs where customer specific functions are required but not available in the standard process, such as the supply of the parcel carrier specific interface structures.
