Hi Ariel,

The OFFLINE MODE depends on the Target Client. It is more useful when the Target Client has limited resources such as Processing Speed, Data Storage Space and Connectivity. Such clients are hand held PDAs or Smart Phones. Applications with this mode enabled will run without active connections to the middle ware server or the R/3 Backend. When in OFFLINE mode the client will store the data temporarily on DB or Files. Whenever a Synchronisation is made or connection is made available it will synchronize with middleware server or R/3 Backend. In this mode the Client and Server will be updated with latest data and configuration. This most useful when a Connection to server is down, expensive in cost and if there regular sync process scheduled during evening after work.

Hope this is useful.

Hi,

The main intension of MI is to connect Offline to SAp R/3 systems.

We take the PDA to the field and do all bussiness related work(add records, delete, transactions etc). After coming from the field when we connect to SAP R/3 systems our data will gets filled to Backend and the latest data comes to the Client.

I hope i am clear in why we use MI offline

hello ariel,

Mobile Infrastructure is an OFFLINE (disconnected) mobile

framework. It's different from other mobile concept such

as WebDynpro Mobile UI. Most people do usually get confuse

between these two.

The author of the book SAP NW for Dummies, got it wrong

as well... It seems that he was referring to online web

applications developed in WebDynpro using the Mobile UI.

What do you mean "offline mode"?

If you mean disconnected, then all that means is you are not retrieving data from an SAP system with each request. You have the data downloaded into your device and you only manipulate that data, once you have access to a network connection again you can synchronize your local data with the data on the middleware/backend and the delta will be processed. Therefore disconnected means you are able to continue working on your application even with network absence.

Refer to the MDK to understand the detailed processes in action behind the Mobile Infrastructure platform.

Hope this helps..
