OS ver: HP-UX 11.23
NW ver: 7.0 SR2
I am trying to kick off the installation process for WebAS ABAP 7.0 SR2 on the HP-UX server.
In the first terminal session, I have
While inside tmp/sapinst_instdir:
# /usr/sap/sapcds/Bussuite2005installmaster/IM_HPUX_IA64/sapinst
[==============================] - extracting... done!
Starting GuiServer using:
/opt/java1.4/jre/bin/java -cp /tmp/sapinst_exe.18344.1208269292/JAR/instgui.jar:/tmp/sapinst_exe.18344.1208269292/JAR/inqmyxml.jar -Djava.security.egd=file:/dev/urandom SDTServer config=jar:sdtserver.xml guiport=21212 sapinsthost=localhost sapinstport=21200 guistart=true
load resource pool /usr/sap/sapcds/Bussuite2005installmaster/IM_HPUX_IA64/resourcepool.xml
guiengine: no GUI connected; waiting for a connection on host R3ereprd, port 21200 to continue with the installation
While inside the installation master directory, when I try to execute script startInstGui.sh in another terminal session, it says:
Start mode: gui (GUI only)
Connection parameters:
GUIServer host: localhost
GUIServer port: 21212
Starting...
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: SDTGui
Can anyone please suggest what could possibly be wrong?
Thanks and regards
Hi Shehryar
Please try to switch to the cd directory before starting sapinst
# cd /usr/sap/sapcds/Bussuite2005installmaster/IM_HPUX_IA64
# ./sapinst
Sapinst should normally auto start the gui. Please post, if it still doesn't work.
Regards
Michael

Hi,
Thanks for response. If I try to execute the script ./sapinst from within the installation master directory, I get an error which says:
Starting GuiServer using:
/opt/java1.5//bin/java -cp /tmp/sapinst_exe.17734.1208268586/JAR/instgui.jar:/tmp/sapinst_exe.17734.1208268586/JAR/inqmyxml.jar -Djava.security.egd=file:/dev/urandom SDTServer config=jar:sdtserver.xml guiport=21212 sapinsthost=localhost sapinstport=21200 guistart=true

103 controller.xmlToObject.XmlFileIsNotAControlXml /usr/sap/sapcds/Bussuite2005installmaster/IM_HPUX_IA64/product.catalog, 85
My own understanding was that sapinst should start the GUI but that wasn't happening. And until I switched to the tmp directory, it kept in giving me the above mentioned error. Any ideas what I am missing here?
Thanks and regards,
Shehryar
Hi again
The only thing i can imagine, is a problem with your installation master dvd. I just tried it at my place and it works, i attach the file sizes and the output of sapinst, maybe you see something:

So the authorizations are different. Do you suggest that might be an issue?

Hi,
Tracefile called sdtstart.err contains the following when I execute the script from within the installation master directory:
15/Apr/2008 21:43:57 error in:
Class : com.sap.sdt.server.core.SDTServer
Name : main
Static : true
class [Ljava.lang.String; - [Ljava.lang.String;@4413ee
java.lang.RuntimeException: invocation target exception: Provider com.sap.engine

at com.sap.sdt.util.misc.BootStrapper.start(BootStrapper.java:107)
at SDTServer.main(SDTServer.java:49)
Looks like a problem with the version of JAVA or missing libraries. My version is 1.5.0.09. Which version are you using?
Regards
and when I run the sapinst script from tmp/sapinst_instdir, the script stops with the message "guiengine: no GUI connected..". In this case, when I execute script startInstGui.sh, sdtstart.err says:
java.lang.RuntimeException: invocation target exception: Can't connect to X11 window server using 'R3ereprd:0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.
at com.sap.sdt.util.misc.MethodCall.invoke(MethodCall.java:110)
at com.sap.sdt.util.misc.BootStrapper.start(BootStrapper.java:107)
at SDTGui.main(SDTGui.java:46)
I have tried running sapinstgui from a windows desktop to connect to HP-UX box. It connects fine and SAPInst dialog box comes up fine. But when I select the installation option, it fails with error that "103 syslib.filesystem.nodeDoesNotExist".
So this indicates there is something wrong with my JAVA version as well as display settings. Can you please confirm your JAVA version and display settings? Moreover, which shell are you using to execute the scripts?
Regards
Hi again
At the box where i tested it, i had this version:
root# java -version
java version "1.4.2.17"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2.17-071106-02:40)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 1.4.2 1.4.2.17-071106-08:12-IA64N IA64, mixed mode)
So this one is definitely working.
Regards Michael
Hello,
I got the same error starting ./sapinst on:
OS ver: HP-UX 11.23
NW ver: 7.0 SR2
I look's like java could not access the product.catalog.
Changing to the /tmp directory and than starting sapinst
I could start the sapinst and the GUI comes up, but during choosing something, I got file not found !
Any solution ?
Thanks and regards
