Dears:

I install ECC 5.0 on windows 2003 server 32-bit with Oracle 9.2 database. And i find that the kernel of ECC 5.0 is only Kernel Patch number 43. So i want to upgrade the kernel of it.

1. I am not sure if the latese kernel i download from SAP website if suitable to upgrade ECC 5.0 or not. This is my download path:Support Packages and Patches->My Company's Application Components" -

> SAP KERNEL 32-BIT" -
> SAP KERNEL 6.40 32-BIT->ORACLE--> SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR(Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620/610) Q2/2008 ).

2. If there is any programme need to run after the new kernel is upgrade?

Hi. I try to follow your path to find ECC 5.0 kernel file. But i can't the path which you mension Path--->ECC 5.0 and select kernel file and download in service.sap.com.

Do you have the detail path and filename in service.sap.com.so that i can follow.

Hi Pan,

Can you please again download the kernel patch for ECC 5.0 on windows for oracle.

You can find in marketplace, select the patch --> ECC 5.0 and select kernel file and download.

extract the downloaded files and copy to usr/sap/<SID>/sys/exe/run.

but take backup of previous run (kernal) and move newly extracted files on run location.

Reward the point if issue solve.

Hi. Thanks for your valued suggestion.

The path which i download SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR(Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620/610) Q2/2008 ) is

Support Packages and Patches->My Company's Application Components" -

> SAP KERNEL 32-BIT" -
> SAP KERNEL 6.40 32-BIT->ORACLE--> SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR(Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620/610) Q2/2008 ).

And i try to download the file which you mension in your reply

SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR<-----Database Independent.But i can't find this file.

This is the path i try to find in sap website.

Support Packages and Patches->My Company's Application Components" -

> SAP KERNEL 32-BIT" -
> SAP KERNEL 6.40 32-BIT--->#Database independent

But i find one similar file in this path:

SAPEXE_221-20000182.SAR Kernel Part I (for Basis 640/620/610) Q2/2008

But i check that this file is for Kernel Part I ,what i download to do kernel upgrade file is Kernel Part II. So i think this file is not suitable.

Can you suggest where i can find SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR<-----Database Independent?

On the other hand, if the file SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR<-----Database Independent is also uncar to sap kernel path:

\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run?

Hi Vijay Krishna, thanks for your support. I check the ECC kernel path, but i only find

usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\run

I can't find \usr\sap\SID\exe in ECC 5.0. So what i upgrade yesterday is only
usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\run

Hi Pan,

Replacing the \usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\run its all that you need.

remember to backup your old kernel before swaping.

Hi.Thanks for your quick response.

I install ECC 5.0 in windows server 2003 32-bit system. Before i do the kernel upgrade,

first, i open SAPMMC, then stop sap service there. But i didn't stop the oracle listener in the windows service. By the way here,if i upgrade sap kernel, shall i need to stop oracle listener or not?

Second,I backup the kernel files which is in \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run.

Third, i copy and paste the uncar file to \usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\run.

But about the uncar file, when i finish download kernel file SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR(Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620/610) Q2/2008 ). there are already 2 files there, one named SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR, which size is 5431KB. Another is SAPEXEDB_221-20000185,which size is 123KB. But I compare the file which you ask me to uncar is

1)SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR

2) SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR

For the SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR i already get it. But for SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR, when i finish download the kernel SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR, there is already a file name SAPEXEDB_221-20000185, but without suffix . SAR. So do you think i need to download SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR from other place? Or SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR is the same with SAPEXEDB_221-20000185 which size is only 123KB.

Hi,

I am not sure about ECC 5, but in ECC 6, there would be two exe folders in which you have to udate the Kernel.

Just give a try to see if you can find two exe folders

1)
usr\sap\SID\sys\exe\run

2)
usr\sap\SID\exe

Replace the files in both these folders after you stop all the SAP & your DB Windows Services and restart the server.

Award points if helpful.

Thanks

Hi.

AS per your mail, i feel you dont have SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR downloaded. To have the full kernel upgraded you must download Database independent and the Database dependent SAR files :

1)SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR <---Database Independent

2) SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR <-- Database Dependant

You can delete the file but without suffix, you beed only *.SAR files

Thanks for your reply. Tonight, i try to use your method to upgrade the kernel. After i upgrade the kernel, i start sap service, i find that there are lots of warning in the syslog, which said

*Security: Certificate with PSE type >SystemPSE< has been invalid for 8164 days*

so i am not sure if this warning is important or not? Because i still can start sap service successfully.

2. I logon sap, then in sm51--->release note, i find that before i upgrade the kernel, Kernel patch number is 43, Souse ID is 0.043; DBSL Patch NO. is 039

After i upgrade the kernel, the kernel patch number is still 43. Source ID:0.043; But DBSL Patch NO. change to 220.

So i want to ask after the kernel upgrade, why the kernel patch number is still 43? What DBSL Patch NO. use for?

Security Certificate - PSE is related to your SSL certificates, for timebeing you can ignore that.

Is your OS on Windows ? Did you stop all the services, including the DB, SAPOSCOl etc. in services.msc.

Did you uncar both the .SAR files

1)SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR

2) SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR

HI

1. You can download the kernel and update. For Upgrade it is better to be on the latest kernel on the Source Release.

On how to upgrade the Kernel

a) Download SAPEXE_221-20000185.SAR and SAPEXEDB_221-20000185.SAR

b) Stop SAP and Database

c) Uncar both the .sar file using 'SAPCAR' in /sapmnt/<sid>/exe directory

2. After Updating the kernel, start DB and SAP and run the t-code SICK. If it doesnt report any problem, then there is no issue.
