How to determine the data element? I understand it has nothing to do with this group but I am trying to expand my knowledge. thanks in advance.

Use transaction SE11.

You can identify the data element for a field by going to the field, pressing the F1 key and then F9 key. Then double click on the field name to drill down on the field name to drill down to the SAP R/3 ABAP dictionary. The column headed 'data element' indicates the data element for the field.
