Reason for having preproduction in landscape

Hi gurus,

Can anybody tell me what is the exact reason for having PrePROD

system in the landscape. What will be the flow in 4 SYSTEM Landscape.

say DEV>QA>PrePROD->PROD.

how the object moves from Dev to Production.

Hi,

This is a question of company organisation.

We do have pre-production systems because we have a contractor for the production exploitation. They do need pre-production systems to be able to test the deliveries we send them.

So testbed, sandbox, dev, quality are under our responsability (internal IT team).

pre-production and production are under the contractor responsability.

This is kind of weird for SAP systems but it is a global company choice for hundreds of different systems in the whole IT department. Even if I regret it, there could not be a "SAP systems exception"...

The SAP recommended lanscape is three tiers DEV - QA - PRD... I can only see a pre-production system as a extra testing scenario in order to increase quality management.... but in my honest opinion is unnecesary and will only add to the cost of operations without going into the extra time you'll need to rollout patches/testing etc...

What will be the flow in 4 SYSTEM Landscape.

Same as in a 3 tier landscape but with one more step...
