can i create a sales order without item category & schedule line category, if then how ?

how can i link inquiry, quotation & sales order ?

Item category is automatically determined by system basing on material indicated in sales order.

So in simple answer to your question if there are no materials, there are no item categories and no schedule lines.

Answer to your second part is you create a quotation with reference to your inquiry and sales order with reference to quotation.

Once you enter the material in the line item in the sales order, system proposes the item category and schedule line automatically , so as long as you don't enter any material in the sales order no item category or schedule line triggers

coming to your second query

you can link from Inquiry to Quatation to Sales order

in VOV8 , there is a feild Reference mandatory select that one . if you maintain that you need to create a quotation with reference to inquiry only and sales order with reference to quatotaion only

In this way you can link all three . Inquiry - quaotation - sales order

Another way of linking all the three are while creating quatotion, do create with reference and give Inquiry number , and while creating sales order create with reference and give quotation number. In this way you can link all the three Inquiry - quoataion - sales order
