GATP question on transaction /SAPAPO/ATPCQ_GRP

Can someone highlight the significance of checkbox "Check Planning Area"? I have gone through the help text, however cannot understand the functional implication.

We want to know what the other GATP setups have - whether it is checked or unchecked ?

What is the loss of GATP functionality for unchecking the checkbox?

In the product allocation we maintain the product allocation qty in planning book, for that we need planning area.

Hence it is advisable to select the check planning area check box as select while creating product allocation group.

With this setting planning area is checked during the product allocation.

All characteristics and key figures of the product allocation group must be linked to info objects of the planning area.

If not all info objects of the planning area are linked to characteristics of the product allocation group, you have to take care of correct aggregation or disaggregation procedures.

If we do not select the check box of the check planning area at product allocation group, while checking the consistency it shows warrning.

In the building block of demand planning for product allocation it is asked to select it.

I am sure you have already gone through this building block.

Vinod and Anjali

Those were very insightful answers. However SAP has advised us to uncheck that due to performance issues. We might need to run some program frequently to sync Product Allocations.

Anjali - when you say "If we do not select the check box of the check planning area at product allocation group, while checking the consistency it shows warrning." ...please highlight at what point you get the warning.

Can you both just give a flavour of the GATP implementation presently in place ? - Number of CVCs particularly or other parameters like number of char or PAGs or other parameters that determine the complexity from performance standpoint.

We have just 14000 CVCs and we are getting host of queues in RETRY statuses after a BOP run. The BOP runs eventually show successful in the monitoring board but the delay is unbearable. The RETRY queues eventually process out when the BOP finally ends successfully.

Hi Srinivas,

We have about 32,078 CVC's in the product allocation planning book, but we do not do a backorder processinig. Would be good if you can run the BOP process earlier. It is the BOP which is causing the performance issue.

Just for everyone's benefit, SAP has recommended to us to switch off the check planning area checkbox. We are also advised to use a BADI (most likely /sapapo/sdp_save) to make sure that everytime someone hit the save button in GATP planning book, a background job (mentioned by Anjali in the mail trail I guess) is invoked to sync up product allocation group with live cache.

We had to do the above after upgrading from SP 9 to 16 and encountered severe CIF queue issues post-BOP. The locking logic for consuming allocations changed during the SP upgrade.

Thanks Vinod and Anjali for clearing the cobwebs on this one. I ran out of points to give you both on this one:-)

Hi Srinivas,

We use the GATP functionality with the check box for 'Check Planning Area' checked, which ensures that the data in the product allocation planning book is always in synch with the product allocation group.

The CVC's are created for the product allocation planning area and the CVC's are copied across to the product allocation group using transaction /SAPAPO/ATPQ_PAREA_K. This ensures data consistency. If you have not set this switch, the product allocations are read from the product allocation group. Data storage for product allocation and data storage for planning are separate from each other.

Hope that helps...

Regards

Vinod
