Task and Request

Hi All,

Can anyone please tell me what is a task and request?

What is the difference between task and request?

How can we create tasks and requests?

How often we will release the request?

Does functional module level configuration comes under workbench request or customizing request?

Thanks in advance for your answers!!

Reg,

Hi,

To distinguish between global changes in the system and client-specific Customizing settings, modified objects are divided into different categories. Change requests and tasks are also assigned to these categories, depending on the objects they contain. There are two request categories:

Customizing requests

Customizing requests record client-specific Customizing settings made in a single client (the source client of the request).

Change requests

Change requests contain Repository objects and cross-client Customizing objects. Change requests can also be mixed. This means that they may contain client-specific Customizing. However, as above, all the client-specific objects must only originate from one client (the source client of the request).

when you want to release the request you have to use the T-code SE10 where you can see the requests under the heading modifiable or released. Go to the modifiable option. Each request will have again an internal request number. First you have to release the internal request and then release the external request number. This will in turn released by the basis guys thru the T-code SM64 in a group when all the requests are pooled from different users.

The task is nothing but the what task you have performed while customizing the client system and the heading name which have given it for that task and generated a request for that task. A request may contain more than one task, so when you want to move it, first all the indidual tasks should be released so that you can move the request.

Hi NA

Workbench request are created by technical consultants like ABAP'ers

Customizing request are created by Functional consultants lilke SD,MM,PP,FI, etc

requests are generally released from development to quality server.

and releasing these requests ,basis people will be doing.

when you complete your configuration part in devlopment server you need to send it to quality server at that point of time you will be releasing the request. Now how much time we need depends on our configuration we do at development server. and also depends on the client requirement

Reward if useful

Can a functional guy go directly to se10 and create a customizing request? If created it, do I at a later time inform the Basis guy to transport my request which will have my configuration changes to another server, when to inform depends on the client right??

Workbench requests will be created when we do some configuration/Modifications/Additions to SAP tables for example - Pricing Condition tables, Text Tables, ..any tables used in condition technique..etc. To be more precise whenever we do any changes to cross client componenst it will create a Work bench request

Customzing request - for all non cross client configurations like Enterprise Structure, order types, Item categories, Schedule lines......Access sequences, procedures....

you can go to SE10 and release your transport request and then the basis people would move it to respective clients - for example from DEV to Test and then Tet to Production. When you release , release the Sub task and then the Main task. The system will look for documentation during releasing so mainatin some documentation while releasing else the system will not allow you to release the transport.
