Hi,
only one client of the XI can act as Integration Server like described here:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e1/0c733cb7d61952e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
so it makes no sense to have more than one client and use as different XI Systems (DEV, PROD, ..).
You can use additional clients in XI only as Business Systems.
If you want to use one XI for (DEV, PROD,...) you can use one client and work with different software components (like mentioned by Prateek).

You mean to say that we can have only one integration server for one client even though we have multiple clients.
U will have only one Integration Server for one XI server. Therefore all the clients will be using same integration server
They are not usefull????
Clients are not made to have separate processing. U can have data as client dependent

As i told u earlier, theoretically this is possible to have all the communication of DEV, QA and PROD environment through same XI but it is not recommended.
Still if u want to go for it, then in IR u have to create separate SWC for each landscape and in ID u can only create separate Configuration Scenario
