I could download CtrlShift0 but it downloads as .XIM file. Is this viewable?

yes, we can export the message mapping with an extension of .mte not .xls.
if you want to export ,make sure the following step.
open message mapping, do
ctrlshiftright click->export.
the mapping exported with extension .mte
