SQLJ support

As an ABAP developer preparing for the move into the Java world, I've been reading various material on Java such as the article recently put on the SDN home page about WAS (Peter Tillert, Java Magazin).

The documents I read outline SAP's support for various database access layers, with a preference for SQLJ due to the advantages of its design-time checks.

So I was surprised to find a page on Oracle's website indicating that support for the SQL translator was being dropped:

Now it's possible that I misunderstand what this really means. Can anyone clarify?

As we develop our own tools this means nothing for SQLJ support for Open SQL. But it seems that in the Java Community there is little support for "embedded" code.

As an ABAP programmer you are used to this somehow, so it may give you a homy feeling to do so. Anyway, we support it, use it or don't, there are other ways too.
