Picking function

Hi Experts

What is the benefit of using picking function ? A sales order can be delivered and invoiced without using picking feature - so why is picking required? What purpose does it serve with respect to order fulfilment?

thr is no automaticdelivery

in sap u have to do picking and assign storage location to it

so i think pickinf g is must

u can do wave picking for automatic piciking

Hi,

Picking is not mandatory as such, if it is mandatory in your case, your system must have been configured like that.

in fact picking importance is explained by an example:

if you have a big warehouse with no. of rooms as 20 having multiple materials say A,B & C.

now if a customer comes to you, and requests you to provide him material B of 50 qty.

how will you direct the person under you to collect the material using the minimum time and maximum accuracy.

in this case, picking comes into picture, you can tell the person under you with the help of picking that bring material B of 50 pcs from room no. 10 and 12 with 30 and 20 pcs resp.

this way you reduce your time and have an accurate result.

also the qty with the rooms in warehouses should be maintained, which is done in warehouse management.

if you have only 1 room as storage location, you dont have to go for picking function.

Use:

In the case of outbound deliveries, only the delivery items that are relevant for picking are transferred to the Warehouse Management (WM) component. Certain items such as text items or service items (consulting activities) are not relevant for picking.

However, even in any tangible product for which delivery is being created, Picking field can be deactivated in Delivery Item Category (T.Code: OVLP), which will reduce the activity of doing picking in delivery. If Picking is an active field, it ensures that only if Delivery Quantity & pick Quantity is the same, it will allow to do PGI.

Hello,

I believe you've got it wrong. Delivery is not possible without picking the stock from a storage location in any normal scenario except for text items or return goods.

Picking is the process where the stock is selected from a storage facility to fulfil a delivery. Not all items are relevant for picking such as text items or returns items.

Picking is always carried out from a particular storage location, thus for a delivery to be picking relevant, a storage location must always be entered. If interfacing with warehouse management, the storage location in the delivery determines which storage location to use in the warehouse.

Requirements that must be met before picking can be define here. SAP uses standard requirement 111, which restricts picking to be carried out only after checking and passing the credit check.

Should you wish to create you own requirement, you can create one using a number in the range from 500 upwards.
