Hey there,

Simple but annoying - in order to use the description given in the Data type during mapping faze

I need to see it during mapping.

Problem is that the description from the data type don't pass to the Message type.

Anyone encountered this issue? if so how it was resolved?

points will be rewarded.

Hi,

seems to happen if your data types are structured. I tried it and it's not working for data types that are inside of an other data type.

Is it like this in your case?

If it's like this maybe you can try to use (a non structured) data type

Hi,

sorry my answer was a little bit too fast.

I have a case which is working and one that is not working. I can't say at the moment why. But it's interesting and i will try to find something out.

Patrick

i think patrick means when you reference other data type in A data type, the description in other data type cannot be shown in A data type.

But i tried it, it's still ok!

Is it related to SP?

I don't know exactly

mine is PI 7.0 SP11

Hi,

the strange thing is:

If you go to source view you can see the description (at least in my case) even in the mapping. But i don't know if this could help you.

One more thing:

It seems to have something to do with the software components:

All cases it worked are in the same SC and all cases that not worked are in an other SC.

Hi again,

My DT has no references to other DT in the structure.

XI 3.0 SP 18

I'm using two different SWC in the mapping program.

the DT description can't be seen in either SWC.

Description CAN be seen in the XML Schema though.

Hi,

guess it has to do with the language of the description and found that thread:

encoding ISO-8859-1 - not sure if possible to change that...created automatically by the XI design time.

I'm writing in English...unless the issue has to do with my OS language...debut it...

So basic yet....No solution...

Hi Nimrod,

really strange........

well just for testing - do one thing create a new data type with some descriptions for some fields and create a msg type for it...... now tell me can you see the descriptions in this new msg type or not? if you can see the descriptions here, then i think it can be a cache related issue....close IR.......go to transaction SXI_CACHE and do a complete cache refresh........open IR again and again open your earlier msg type........now are you able to see the description - if not, just edit your msg type, choose data type again in it, save and activate it.........now i think your msg type should have data type descriptions in it...........and your msg mapping will then have descriptions in it.......

Hi,

please try the following:

- open your data type

- in the menu go to data type -> properties

- set the original language to english

- save the data type

- check your message type for the same properties

- refresh your message type

Hi Patrick.

creating a new DT with desc. and associate it into an existing MT or a new one...does keep the description inside.

But I have no intention to re-build my Data types....no way!

the application should coop with description added to existing DT.

I have refreshed SWC cache.no change...

If you have any idea, I don't know this is very strange...

Hi Nimrod,

just edit your msg type and reselect your data type in it...............now save and activate it............you will be able to see its description there..............if still you are not able to see your description, just copy the data type into a new data type in the same namespace...........just edit your msg type to have this new data type as its data type...........save and activate it....
