webdispatcher with virtual hosting

Hi,

we have installed portal and we are accessing it using http://hostname.company.com:50000/

I want to access this using http://epdev

steps I followed:

1. created an alias epdev in DNS

2. installed webdispatcher in front of portal

3. in the profile file of the webdispatcher, we set the parameter which redirects to http://hostname.company.com:50000

I want to know if the concept of "VIRTUAL HOSTING" be useful for me, because I am planning to avoid creation of epdev in DNS.

could some one please guide me.. is the procedure that i followed correct or is there a possibility to set up without setting the DNS name.

Hi,

never tried that myself, but it seems that the documentation says it's possible to configure web dispatcher work with virtual hosts - see <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/fe/cda776f2f64d5287c614b2f715c25f/frameset.htm">here</a>. In your case, you would have to define the virtual hosts for your portal in the HTTP Provider Service of the J2EE Engine (you can use the Visual Administrator tool for that).
