Hi All,
I am going to import Live cache patch LC760208A5011_2-10003393.SAR for AIX 5.3.But I am having some concern regarding the same, which is given below.
1. Which file system backup I need to take before applying the live cache patch?
2. Is it possible to uninstall Live cache patch?
3. Is there any dependence in Live cache patches?
4. Is it possible to apply latest Live cache patch without applying the previous patches.
So please help me.
Our technical specification is given below.
SAP System SCM 5.0
Database Oracle 10.2.0.2
OS AIX 5.3
Live cache version 7.6.00 BUILD 029-123-130-265
DBM Server version 7.6.00 Build 029-123-130-265
Thanks,
Harshal
Hi Harshal,
1. Which file system backup I need to take before applying the live cache patch? ==> Don't take a file system backup as it is not supported by SAP. Take a liveCache backup in admin mode.
2. Is it possible to uninstall Live cache patch? ==> No
3. Is there any dependence in Live cache patches? ==> I'm not sure what you mean here. The liveCache and LCA builds are packaged together, so you don't have to worry about that. Often, the liveCache patch requires a SCM SP, so you should check whether you have the minimum SCM/APO SP for a particular liveCache patch.
4. Is it possible to apply latest Live cache patch without applying the previous patches. ==> Yes, of course.
Thanks,
Ashwath

Hi Ashwath,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Since I am very new on MaxDB Database and Live cache so here I would like to ask some question on same.
1. Why file System backup is not supported on MaxDB , Live cahe environment ?
2. What will happen if I take the backup in online mode before applying the Max DB and Live cache patch?
3. What is the difference between backup in admin mode and backup in online mode?
4. Is it possible to restore MaxDB database by using and backup in online mode?
Please let me know and thanks a lot in advance.
Thanks,
Harshal
1. Why file System backup is not supported on MaxDB , Live cahe environment ?
==> From note 846890:
It is only possible to execute a file system backup when the
database is in the offline status. The length of time for which the
database is unavailable for operation depends on the size of the
dataset.
In contrast, you can back up the database while it is in the online
status using the MaxDB backup tools, in parallel with production
operation. You can use a backup generated online using database
tools for a system copy.
A file system backup of the volumes (data and log) backs up all data
that is saved in the volume.
In contrast, a backup using the MaxDB tools only backs up the data
of a converter version, which may be required for a recovery.
When you create a file system backup, the system does not carry out
a checksum-check on the blocks.
While the backup is being created using the MaxDB tools, the system
executes consistency checks on the data.
Even when you back up the log volumes using a file system backup,
you need to also back up the log area using the database tools, to
ensure that the log area can be released again for overwriting.
A file system backup is not included in the MaxDB backup history.
Backups performed using the MaxDB tools integrate the backup
history, and this makes restoring the database in the event of a
recovery a simple process.
2. What will happen if I take the backup in online mode before applying the Max DB and Live cache patch?
==> Nothing, you can do this too. It's just that before you do the backup, liveCache will be shutdown anyway, so it's better to do the backup in admin mode.
3. What is the difference between backup in admin mode and backup in online mode?
==> Both backups are consistent, but the difference is that during online backup, there may be some active transactions in the liveCache. When it is in admin mode, there are no active transactions. Both backups can be used for restore and system copies.
4. Is it possible to restore MaxDB database by using and backup in online mode?
==> Yes
