Hi Friends,
We have a requirement where the data has to be maintained in Canada French and France French.Have few questions on the same.
Qn. 1) Is there any way to inherit the data values into a particular language based on the region it is used.
Qn. 2) Also is there a way to change the data value after it is inherited and enter a new data in a regional language.
Appreciate your suggestions very much.
Thanks
Hi MDM User,
For getting in your data in MDM in different languages it is possible.
Depending on how your source file is containing the multilingual data we can accordingly import it into MDM.
- The field contains value only in the current language.
- As multiple fields: one field per language eg(Description eng, Description fren)
- As field and language pair :one field containing the multilingual data and the other the language.
Qn. 1) Is there any way to inherit the data values into a particular language based on the region it is used.
This is a work around.
You can try using qualified table and make the deciding field as a non qualifier (eg region), and the determined field (eg colour )as the qualifier. So based on the region the color will be displayed in the current language (eg: Red in eng,Rouge in french, Rot in german).
Qn. 2) Also is there a way to change the data value after it is inherited and enter a new data in a regional language.
The concept of inheritance is provided so that if the value for a particular multilingual field is not present in a given language then it will inherit the primary language and if primary is absent then it will inherit the secondary language.
To avoid the inconvinence to edit the language in case it is absent MDM has provided Inheritance .So it is not suggested to change the language once inherited.
Even if it allows you to edit the language in which color will it display that language as it is neither (the current langu nor the primary, nor the secondary langauge).
Hope it helped
