Can we have MaxDB 7.6 & 7.7 on the same machine

Hi,

We have Maxdb 7.6 installed in Win 2003 Server 64-bit.It is used as a database for SCM Livecache. It is working fine. we want to use Maxdb 7.7 for MDM , can i install it on the same system? will it affect the already working SCM livecache Maxdb 7.6.Experts please advice.

Hi,

you know that MaxDb has release dependant software which is located for each database in the sperate INSTROOT directory and there is some release independant software which is located in the INDEPPROG directory and used for all instances on this server.

To run MaxDb/liveCache with diffenrent version both instances uses the same INDEPPROG directory which must be the highest version in your case the 7.7 software. The liveCache kernel will be individual for each instance ( it s located in the INSTROOT directory /sapdb/<SID>/db/pgm)

You should take care that the machine which is used for MDM and liveCache is large enough to run both instances perfomantly.

Take note that both instances are using the same INDEPPROG software when you upgrade one of both instances with a newer version you have to stop x_server while the upgrade.
