Mail server config in mds.ini file | MDM 5.5 SP06

Hi , I am trying to send a email notification through an MDM workflow during an approval process but in the workflow log it shows that it is not able to retrieve the mail server information . I have the mial id's attached to the users individually in the console . I am trying this through a Microsoft exchange server (company server ) and I have the server name entered in the "Mail Server "entry in the mds.ini file . I changed the "Mail SMTP Timeout" entry to 10 so that it may enough time to get the information from the mail server . But still no luck .

- Do I need some specific mail server for this configuration ? SMTP /POP3/ Microsoft exchange server ???

- Is there some specific port used by MDM for sending out a mail and if yes then is there a configuration required in my mail server for the same ?

- If I wanted to use my GMAIL id to test this , can I do that and if yes then how ? I would be interested in the exact entry for the mail server that I would use to test this .

Would really appreciate your help !!

Regards

Deepak Singh

Hi Deepak

I just managed to resolve a similar issue I was having with mdm. I don't know if it'll help with your issue but it might be worth trying. In mds.ini I had specified the name and address of my company email server as it appeared in MS Outlook, but when I spoke to on of our technical specialists he advised me I needed to specify the external name. (So for me it was 'mail.ciber.com')

I changed this and it worked! (Unfortunately I now have another issue because only the header of the email comes through, not the body, but that is seperate matter.)

Hope this helps

Hi deepak

In addition to Alok,

Maile server complaints :

First locate the source of the problem .One advice would be setup a simple E-mail server on the same computer and assign it to MDm .So everything is on localhost that way you can check whether the error is on the mail server side or MDm side

Also double check out the email setting such as addresses , try and ping the mail server.

Also check workflow error log file in \server\reports.folder

Also check your repository and port

Notify task is working after rebooting the machine. so the rule is after making changes to Mds.ini file rebbot the machine , to abserve the consequence of configurable changes.

I think it may help u

Settings for mail send/receive:

1.Ceck with your Admin guy whether MDM server machine is authorized as mail sender and receiver with your company mail server.

2. Restart the MDM server once you change any setting in mds.ini for mail setup.

3. Put all timeout as 0 hours in workflow steps.

4. Save mail address in Console.
