Performance Issues on PDK for .NET

Hi,

Is there any performance issue against PDK for .NET 2.5? I'm

planning to use it on a heavy which has lots of BAPI calls through

SAP.NET connector.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ali.

Hi Ali,

There are no known issues in PDK for .NET related to it's performance. If you'll find any problem, I would very appreciate if you could share this information with us.

Rima,

Thanks for the reply. My main concern is that we have to add at

least one more layer to process dot NET PDK components on

a J2EE Web application server. Questions like: How long does it

take to translate .NET to Java? Is there any benchmarking on

this subject? I appreciate sharing any information on this matter,

before I go for .NET Portal development kit.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Ali.

PS: My reason for considering PDK for .NET is that I have invested a

lot of effort in .NET technologies, and I'm more comfortable of using

.NET than Java.

Hi Ali,

There is some information regarding PDK for .NET performance in [Installation and Configuration guide|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/35242098-0d01-0010-bba4-e309a5a4c391], chapter 8, Additional Information: Sizing and Performance.

From my personal experience, I can tell you that there is an overhead ( and the reason is pretty obvious ) in .NET Portal Components in comparision to Java Portal Components with the same capabilities. But there is an overhead if you compares an absolute results, for example, response time 200 ms via 300 ms. The question is: does it really matter ? Is user able to feel the difference when we are talking about response time that is less then 1 second in both - .NET and Java - scenarios ?

In addition, I can tell you that the overhead in using PDK for .NET is significantly smaller then in using Web Services for interoperability between .NET and Java.

Hope this information has been helpful to you.

Regards,

Rima.
