Hi All,
I have a strange problem.
The client has a portal installed already but its not in use from more than 2 years. Now I have to check all its details like version, patch levels etc. How can i do that.
I tried to check the URL http://hostname:50000/irj but the portal gives an error page saying that Dispatcher running but no server connected!....what does that mean....the client says that he doesnt have any configuration documents of the portal from which we can get the basic details about this portal..
can any one give me any idea how to proceed further..
i thought of enabling the emergency(sap* user) user...but for that also we need to loginto Visual Admin tool. and the user has no document about the portal.so logging into the portal is impossible..
is there any other way to get the details or log into the portal
thanks and regards,
PK
somehow my basis guy fixed it..dont know how he did it

Hi,
[http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/0b/50ad3e1d1edc61e10000000a114084/frameset.htm.]
You now need to make this configuration manually. See the following:
Also,
1) Check the host and services entry in windows directory.
system32/drivers/etc
2) Check this note:
940893 - Analysis of errors within the startup of J2EE Engine 6.40
3) Please have a check at trace files from work directory : C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\work. Especially dev_ms which is message server logs.
4) Also check the latest logs from dev_jcontrol, dev_dispatcher, dev_server(n), dev_bootstrap to see the possible problem. Please don't post the entire page. Just give the para which shows current error.
5) Also from the developer trace of the server, give the exit code.

Hi PK,
do yourself a favor and install a fresh portal from scratch.
If the customer hasn't used it for more than 2 years then there is nothing valuable in that portal that needs to be saved / reused, right?
But to answer your question:
"Dispatcher running but no server connected" means that the main component of the portal architecture (the "server") is not running. The reason can be found in various log files - check the "work" directory or any other "log" directory you can find.
Bu to be honest - as you don't know what the error stated means I dont't think that you will be able to get the thing back to work!
Give a fresh install a go!

Michael
