Homogenous System Copy and OS/DB migration

Hello,

I will have to move a SAP system to a new server.

I would like to take advantage of this operation to cumulate others evolutions

Oracle version is 9.2 and Windows 2003 version is 32bits

Target oracle version is 10.2 and windows 2003 version is 64 bits.

Should I consider this operation stay a Homogenous System Copy or rather became a OS/DB migration ?

Hi Alain,

Important Key about OS/DB migration

1. Same OS , different DB ( heterogeneus )

2. Same OS , same DB ( homogenues, although the DB is different version )

3. Different OS, Same DB ( heterogeneus )

4. Different OS, Different DB ( heterogeneus )

And I suppose W2003 32 bits and W2003 64bits are considered as "same" OS.

hi,

Yes, they r considered as the same OS... Just make sure you install the correct kernel and not the 32 bit kernel...

If i have missed anypoints please update........

1) Install 64 Bit Oracle Software

2) Shutdown Database (DB) using 32 Bit version

2) Export ORACLE_HOME Env variable to this 64-bit installation Path

3) Copy required DB startup parameter files i.e. init$SID.ora to the 64

Bit ORACLE_HOME/dbs=20

4) Bring up DB using 64 Bit version

5) As sysdba oracle user, from the 64 Bit path, run

$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql

Note if your sql execution turns into an error then please apply the solution given in the output.

You will need to start your system as startup upgrade and then you can go ahead and execute the sql.
