V5R2 Upgrade to V5R4.0

We are running 4.6c on an 840-9406. We plan to upgrade to OS v5r4 and ECC 6 this summer. We last installed PTF's and patches in December 2003. I know we have to upgrade the OS first, back sure 4.6c runs, and the upgrade SAP.

My IBM consultants are not familiar with SAP and the SAP Basis consultants aren't familiar with the AS/400. Does anyone know PTF level the OS needs to be before it can be upgraded to v5r4 and the same with the SAP patches? Also, what level SAP needs to be before upgrading to ECC 6.0? If you don't know, could you point in the right direction to find out

I appreciate any help I might receive.

Thanks,

Bill Cooper

Hello Bill,

From service.sap.com/pam, SAP KERNEL 4.6D_EXT 64-BIT is supported on V5R4 (patch level 2200 or higher). Please review Infoapar II14126 and SAP Note 853564 and many other Notes.

If your SAP is on EBCDIC, you have to convert it to ASCII before ECC 6.0 upgrade.

This is not a small project. Maybe it is better to hire one SAP-AS400 consultant.

Best regards,

Victor

You need to have your current system at the most recent Cumulative PTF level before you upgrade! That can take quite a bit of research depending upon what other LPPs you have installed (I check about two dozen different web sites monthly at V5R3 because IBM doesn't put everything in one place).

You'll definitely want to check the SAP Info APAR for BOTH versions:

Be sure to review the Memo To Users for V5R4:

Be sure to have TWO full system saves (yes, TWO--voice of experience speaking, here) just before you start the upgrade.

Hope this helps,

Robert
