Hi,
Can anybody explain what is the purpose of maintaing the item division when we have maintained the division at header level. what is the logic behind it?
What are the effects when item division differs from the header division?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Sunit
Hi,
Actually the material is assigned to only one division which is in the material masster record.
The customer is assigned to sales area which also contains division.
If u mark the item division, the system will propose the item division from the material master.
If u unmark the field, it will propose the customer's division as a material division.
If the customer is trying to buy the material which is not in his own(assigned) division,(item &header division varies)then the system is to give warning / error message based on the settings u make in VOV8in the field check division.
Hope u understand.

Item Division is basically a division to which the material is assigned at the time of creation.
Logic of item division is when a division ( say 25) has a reference division assigned as ( Say 00 ) than the order is created in reference division 00. so the sales area of that order at header level will have a division as 00 while material is assigned to 25 and so the sales area at item level will be having division 25.
Accordingly credit control area will be determined based on header division while business area will be determined based on item division as per the assignment. Apart from this item division can also be used for reporting purpose.

Also to add the header division we normally use as 00(Common Div.) so that in that order we can sell
items from any division.
But as dision is an organisational unit in SAP-SD and a material can belong to only one division.
Also while maintaining "Business Area" one of the factor is also "Plant & Item Division". thus it will help in reporting purposes.
Hope it helps or revert.
