In the upgrade documenation it has this statement...
SQL> execute dbms_scheduler.disable('GATHER_STATS_JOB');
Isn't this the Oracle job that automatically updates statistics in 10g?
Should I really disable it?
Hello,
Yes, you should disable it.
In SAP the prefered method is to use BRCONNECT for the same task.
You have a little more control over it (like you run it when you want it, the thresholds are known ....)
Another option is to "drop" the use of BRCONNECT for the statistics and use the oracle job, but
- do you know when it runs? you will have to check if the window chosen by oracle to run it fits you
- do you know how it decides that stats are "stale"?
....
if you can answer those, and more, but I'm lazy thinking now :P, then feel free to use Oracle.
Note, you will also get warniings on the EWA that you are not calculating stats, as it is check only BRCONNECT logs for ths.
