Hi,
Product
A collection of all versions of a product. A product is a unit that is delivered, visible to the customer, and is installable and renewable. In an SAP environment, a product corresponds to an SAP technical component.
Product version
A particular version of a product.
Software component
A collection of all versions of a software component. Software components represent the reusable modules of a product. You can upgrade them or install patches on them.
Software component version
A particular version of a software component.
Business service:
To address the potential senders and receivers of messages
Business System:
Business systems are logical senders or receivers that exchange messages by using the Integration Server and that are entered in the System Landscape Directory.
The business systems in the System Landscape Directory relate to a system landscape. The business systems of business partners are therefore not entered in the System Landscape Directory. To be able to address such business partners logically, use communication components in the Integration Directory. A business system is a way of specifying a communication component in the Integration Directory more precisely (business system component).
Technical System:
Technical systems are application systems that are installed in your system landscape.

Hi Dhanu,
The doubts regarding to u was aboud SLD(System Landscape Directory components)
SLD can be classified into 2 as
1. Software Catalog
2. System Catalog
Software catalog consists with Products and Software Components.
If u know Ms-Office we can understand better, Ms-Office is an Product in which Ms-Word and Ms-Excel and others are the components of the Ms-Office product in similar any object created in XI should store under any software component so we require a Software Component and at the same time this Software Components should be under Products, so we are creating products the hierarchy will be like this for software catalog
PRODUCTS -
>>> SOFTWARE COMPONENTS -
>> NAMESPACES CREATED DURING DESIGN -
> OBJECTS
System Catalog consists with Techinal System and Business System
Technical System is the physical entity but where as the Business System is the logical system of the Technical System..
i.e an n number of business systems are created for a singel Technical system.
Basically while developing the scenarios it is difficult to share the technical system so we develop instance of the technical system i,e a logical system.
for further clarification revert back with querie
regards
Kishore Kumar

Hi DHANUNJAY,
PRODUCT : We create a product in the System Landscape Directory(SLD).It is mainly create for the business purpose within which many software components can present.
S/W Unit: The S/W Unit is a unit to hold various business related components.
S/W component: In IR the top level element is s/w component. which holds many component versions.within a s/w component version there are many namespaces you can create under which you design your objects.
Technical System: It is the original system name within the SLD.
Logical System: it is the aliasing name of the Technical System for our use.
Business System: it is a system created for a web application server in the SLD. which we use as a sender os receiver while configuring our scenarios in Integration Directory.
Please reward points if helpful.

what is a S/W UNIT? why is it created?
-->The Netweaver package NW2004, NW2004s etc comes with verious
software units are like the BP ERP, LSO CP and XSS.
Please refer the mySAP ERP 2005 Master Guide.

what is a S/W COMPONENT? why is is created?
--->
Software components combine components (DCs) to larger units for delivery and deployment.
· Every top-level component must be assigned to exactly one software component.
· Child components always belong to the same software component as their parent.
· The assignment of DCs to software components is not static and may change over time.
· Software components cannot be nested into each other.
Software components have globally unique names, which are structured according to the rules for DC names. You must define the name when you create the software component; the name cannot be changed later. Names of software components usually consist of a vendor ID and only one segment, such as sap.com/crm.
In XI scenario SLD is the information provider for the Integration Repository, Integration Directory and Integration Server
Integration Repository = Design time activites takes place here
Integration Directory = Configuration time activites takes plave here
Integration server = Runtime activites takes place here

what is a Technical System? why is it created?
Technical system is a phisical machine, it have a IP. Can be a BBDD, ERP, J2EE ......... a Business System is a logical term that we use into the Business Scenarios and represent these Technical System that we had created.
In the SLD, you have SAP server details as a Technical system . Then Business System is created for this.
Registering a new technical system in SLD - ABAP based
/people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2005/03/10/registering-a-new-technical-system-in-sld--abap-based
what is a Logical System? why we create it while creating of Business System?
-->In SAP terms, a logical system is a client in a database. Messages are exchanged between logical systems.
Logical system is created in the SLD. For e.g you are posting an Idoc.
what is a Business system? What is use of creating it?
-->
Business System have an entry in the SLD and Buiness Service do not.
Business Systems are used when you are sending data to and from an R3 system and can be of ABAP, JAVA and Third Party Types.
Business System is a logical representation of a Technical System.
Business Service is a abstract representation of a System. For instance, www.google.com have a several system working together and IPs of this machines change eventually. When we use a Business Services like google we reference a computer that we don't know the phisical implementation.
Business Service and Business System difference-
why we maintain a Logical system name?
--> Logical system is maintained to communicate with different systems under the distribution model of ALE Layer.
Thanks
Swarup

Hello,
please have a look here:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/01ea90ab24235de10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
It will hopefully answer your first questions.
Business systems are logical systems that communicate with each other within SAP Exchange Infrastructure by sending and receiving messages. They can be SAP or third-party systems.
An SAP system has one or more clients that function independently of each other as logical units at runtime. Each of these clients represents a business system in SAP Exchange Infrastructure.
A third-party system is also a logical unit that functions as a sender or receiver. Therefore, third-party systems are also business systems in this sense.
When communicating with IDocs, you can use the logical system for addressing a business partner. The name of the logical system is then mapped to the name of the relevant service in the Integration Directory.
Just for the future: Please ask only one question per thread and try to write your question in the Subject. Thanks.

Patrick

Suppose whatever i do in IR we need to deliver to the customer or later stage we may need to export in other IR. In that case we need to organize all the development work in a product.
Like product we also need to upgrade our IR design objects hence we need version.
A single project may contain different Software component under product because our integration partner may have different system to integrate so each system like componet under one product for particular customer
For clarification about Business System please follow my froum discussion as below
