Hi all,
Could the WAS 6.40 be used for integration purpose (XI functionality) with out having to buy a full XI license?
considering the fact that it has an build in Integration engine and other XI features...
thanks.
/Thomas
WAS 6.40 is on which the XI IS is built on, you dnt have option to get XI without WAS, might be the partner connectivity kit might be the one which is allows the smaller vendors to use get XI features which is lesser in XI licence cost.....

Hi Thomas,
WAS is must for implementation of XI.
Web AS is consists of ABAP + Java Stack. For XI you need to be available both the stacks. At the time of installation The SAP NetWeaver AS (formerly SAP Web AS) is installed automatically.
To integrate with SAP to XI you need WAS to be installed as it could provide you the feature of Proxy also.
There are still two types of server:
The WebAS, part of the Netweaver product. Currenttly it's 6.4 withing NW2004, but eraly next year it's called WebAs 7 within NW2004S.
The R/3 server, now called mySAP ERP (2005).
Since R/3 4.7EE, the base/core for R/3 and WebAs are the same. For 4.7 it's 6.2.
Thanks
Swarup

Hi,
WAS is not an Integration Tool.
WAS is like and Engine which is having ABAP Stack and the JAVA Stack on which XI runs.
XI needs Web AS for its Integration purpose.
