Hello,

Depends upon the project and the policy.

In the development box itself there may be two or more clients, one is only for delevopment ( will not generate transport request), and the other is for generating the TR.

In the test system may have one, and the production also one.

This will vary company to company.

Generally the minimum setup is as below

2 Development - One for ABAP changes and one for Config changes

3 QA testings - Support testing system, UAT system , IT system

Production - 1

We can have more than these depending upon the functionaliies and business client has.

That depends on how your basis guys configure it. Also depends on your client system landscape.
