Making a field read-only?

Former Member

Hi, all

I have a project requirement to make one of the fields of main table read-only for specific role. For that role I changed Access from Read/Write to Read-Only in Console. In spite of this when a user assigned to that role logins to Data Manager and creates a record he can enter values into that field.

Is it a bug? Is there any way to meet that requirement?

TIA,

Vadim

Hi Vadim,

The User can enter the values but will not be able to save it unless he restores the record.

This worked for me even in SP04.

Please check again or suggest the version and properties of that particular field.

Hi, An

I am on SP6 Patch1. Notice that I talk about record creation, not modification so no 'restoring' is applicable to my case.

I tested that even for simple text field 'Product' in just created empty repository.

Yes you are right Vadim, there is no functionality to do it in MDM and if it exists we are not able to understand that.

we tried with Validations, Role functions etc but could not make it.

I think with java apis we can writye our own logic and may be do it.
