where is system trace written to? server-specific?

Hi folks,

I system traced a user process via ST01. If its system trace, is it for all application servers or just the central instance / application server where the ST01 was started?

I just want to be sure as there are trace files in each application server and I want to be sure I am reading the correct one. I am tracing a problem.

The system trace writes to the

/usr/sap/<sid>/Dxxx/work

directory of whichever application server the trace was started on. So if you want to trace a whole system you have to start the trace on each application server.

I was confused by the term 'System trace' thinking that it means for the whole system including all application servers. Now, thanks to you, I'm clear.
