BAPI: There is no BAPI useful for maintenance of customer master data
Function module: there is but I would definitively not recommand. The existing FM are not designed to be used out of their precise context.
IDOC: Yes DEBMAS idoc type. Related to transaction BD12/BD21. Function modules MASTERIDOC_CREATE_REQ_DEBMAS / MASTERIDOC_CREATE_SMD_DEBMAS/ IDOC_INPUT_DEBITOR. Be aware it should be used with Business Address Services idocs like ADR*MAS
Starting with release 6.00 ERP2005 there are some new functionalities.
In some precise case you could look at some eSOA services. But the complete set of service is not yet available
Alternatively look at LEAN CUSTOMER MAINTENANCE (ECC 6.02 I guess) But there is a couple of limitation.
There are also some inner class which has a better coverage of the functionality but much more difficult to handle properly.
