install sap

can i install sap on external hard disk since my laptop has vista and sap is not compatible with vista. if so please let me know the steps involved and how do i access sap later. i will be very greatful if anybody could answer this.

Hi there,

I'm trying to install demo laptop in a windows 2003 enterprise edition, and it installed the sqlserver data base, the gui , but the instalation didn't finished with success, i consulted the log and it says "the login '\ec6adm' does no exist" i've tried to create the user manualy (with the password given in installation instructions) but even so, it gives me the same message, can anyone help me out ?

Hi Ricardo,

Please explain here complete story what exectly you have done. If you installed windows 2003 server then installe sqlserver or oracle after that install sapr3.

Regarding the ec6adm user will use when system boot and ask user name and password.

Pls revert back in detail.

If you would read the installation guides, then you would find out, that all necessary steps what to do in what sequence are described there IN DETAIL.

Hi there,

I've run all the steps in the note, i've installed a 2003 server, i've unpacked the two files to unpack, and runed the "install.bat"; as mentioned in the note. The installer, installs a MSSQL database, the os users are not created.

Hi there, I've passed the installation step (i think...) and now in the sap console where trying to start the system (SID=EC6) the message server starts but the dispatcher don't, as far as I've understood the ABAP processes start but after a while the end, can anyone help me out ? The shared memory segment can't be created since there's not enough defragmented memory.

You may need to rebase DLLs ( 664269 - Rebasing DLLs under WFP)

Installing and running ERP on 32bit is VERY cumbersome, there may appear more memory related problems...

Once again many thanks to your reply, and sorry for my lack of attention on log reading, now the problem disappeared but another one has appeared, I've searched and didn't find any solution, I've executed the "r3trans -d" and the return code was 0 (so i think that the database connection it's OK.....

Once again many thanks to your reply, and sorry for my lack of attention on log reading, now the problem disappeared but another one has appeared, I've searched and didn't find any solution, I've executed the "r3trans -d" and the return code was 0 (so i think that the database connection it's OK.....

What´s the output of R3trans -d (trans.log)?

Did you re-install after a failed attempt with a different database user?

Check note 551915 - R/3 won't start after database restore or database copy

Hi Sunil,

You can install SAP in your existing vista laptop but you have to install one additional software in your laptop that is vmware.

Firas you install vmware software and on vmware machine you can install SAP any version.

yes sunil, it will be faster on your internal hard disk.. but still, a laptop for Netweaver products is often too slow.

and do not forget to use Windows 2003 enterprise version.

I want to install a demo notebook for my company. I need to install SAP BI and Netweaver 7.0 to make our demo. we dont need to install R/3 because we think to load our data with flat file. I have download a lot of file from SAP Market place but I have a lot of question :

- Does the installation require mandatory and windows server edition (2000 or 2003) or it's possible with an XP version ?

- What is the hardware configuration to work on this notebook and lauch the portal ?

- Do you have any advice or guide to help me in that work ?

first, you need to instal Windows 2003 on your primary hard disk. you cannot boot Windows on a USB disk. once you get Windows 2003 to work, you can install SAP on this USB disk... but it may be slow...

Either install (dual boot) Windows 2003 and use the external harddisk as storage for the database or check if you can do an USB boot and install Windows 2003 there.
