Hi Suresh,

Workflow consists of a sequesnce of steps that allow you organize a series of operationsincluding user tasks, validations and approvals to automate business processes at the data management level.

typical workflow will contain the follow topics:

Step : a element within a workflow that requires processing by user

Thread: a sequence of one or more steps in a group or in a branch of a workflow.

Task: showing up in each user's inbound task queue with in the MDM Data manager, ready for processing by the user.

Job: consists of the group of records that move through each step in the workflow as a series of tasks.

Hi Suresh,

Workflow generally is a part of MDM which enables automised governance in MDM and the process can be tracked. Its more with governance and Automisation.

Workflows can be controlled from webdynpros to make it available to external R/3 application .

Hi Suresh,

MDM workflows is a very powerful feature.

what is the workflow and purporse in MDM?

It used to manage your entire work process in a systematic and orderly way.

It controls the flow of your data while moving from one process to the another.

MDM workflow uses some std MS Visio Stencils which are specific to MDM jobs such as Matching merging,process, approval, assignment & validations and syndication.

why we need to access worlflows from webdynpro?

Acessing MDM workflow through WEB gives it a service orientation.Your Master data is stored in your backend system ie MDM and through a front end you can access this data such as view the data as a product catalogue,or create a material through EP etc.

In such a scenario it is possible that different users log in through Portal(Web) and they need to perform differnt task for eg: 1 functional user may be responsible to enrich certain attributes of a records,simillarly different such user need to perform similar task on the record concurrently Or for eg some one needs to approve these modified records.

So for this process to move on with proper authorization and ownership MDM workflows are used through web.

how to access the workflows from webdynpro?

You can use EP for accesing the MDM workflow through web services.
