I want to install SMD (solution manager diagonostic) on solution manager

Dear Friends,

I want to install SMD (solution manager diagonostic) on solution manager server 4.0. So please help me for related document and guidline.

Q. What purpose SMD is used?

Q. Can we install SMD on solution manager version 4.0 (NW204s) with DB oracle 10g

Q. What would be hardward configuration required?

Q. Is it affect on existic solution manager performance?

Q. how much time is required to install it?

Details :-

OS :- windows 2003 NT

DB :- Oracle 10g

Memory :- 4GB

Currently we had install EWA & Solution landscape & system monitoring on it, so next step to install SMD.

So please reply and provide relevant document.

Your question looks strange as:

- The main goal of SMD is to monitor NW04 & NW04s system.

- SMD is part of SAP Solution Manager 4.0 (built in NW04s)

So do you think, connection is possible?

Mainly SMD is used to monitor for stand alone java systems like EP.

You are wrong now, SMD is now part of E2E offers and it is used to monitor mixed landscape. Abap, Java, Duet....

SMD is automatically installed - this is the Java part of SolMan.

To configure check the configuration guides at

Thanks for reply. We have java stack on solution manager and working fine means SMD also work like that? Ok but i want to configure SMD on solution manager (i.e. agent). And given guide by you is very helpfull for me, i am going through it first anf then start setup.

But my query is,

1) For what purpose SMD is used (i.e. SMD agent)

2) is it affect on existing system performance after SMD coniguration.

3) can it require more hardware configuration or not.

We have already configured EWA , system monitoring and working fine.
